21st-CENTURY PROGRAM

We are delighted to be participants with the centers that provide academic, artistic and cultural enrichment opportunities for students and their families. These opportunities occur during non-school hours or periods when school is not in session.

FORTNIGHT

Every 14 days we will have an interactive event from crafts to demonstrations related to Bedford County history. Kids will enjoy the hands-on crafts of begotten times, play games of yesteryear, learn how things were made with demos and presentations. Events will be posted only on Facebook.

SUMMER CAMP WEEK

We are teaming with archeology students and teachers from Juniata College for the 2017 Summer Camp. Camp is scheduled for July 24th, 25th and 26th from 10AM to 2PM. Students are to bring a brown bag lunch and dress for outside field work. Space is limited to 15. Read below for details

2017 SUMMER CAMP

Archaeology at Fort Bedford Museum encourages curiosity with a hands-on and collaborative research into Bedford County’s past.

DAY 1 - FORT BEDFORD MUSEUM

Fort Bedford Museum hosts the first day of camp with guided tours of museum exhibits and the original location of the French and Indian War fort constructed in 1758. Students will also undertake a hands-on creative project.

DAY 2 - OLD BEDFORD VILLAGE

Archaeological fieldwork! Excavate shovel test pits and screen soil for artifacts!

DAY 3 - SPARKS FARM, EVERETT

Juniata College hosts campers at Sparks Farm. College students will be excavating and campers will screen for artifacts. This is a very intact and cool archaic site. Plus, a flintknapping demo: learn exactly how Native Americans made their stone tools.

REGISTRATION

Please call Ms. Suzanne Trussell at the museum to register your child. Ms. Trussell will provide specific program details. Directions to sites will be provided once registration and payment are complete.
