TRANSFORMATION OF FORT BEDFORD / VIDEO BY MATT OTIS
Recognizing the Museum’s historical importance and the need for immediate improvement in all areas of operation, the Bedford Heritage Trust secured a team of museum professionals to catalog thousands of objects, implement a collections management policy, and install new interpretive exhibits. The Team included specialists in historical interpretation, collections conservation and management, exhibit design and fabrication, archaeology, and graphic design.
Phase I of the Trust’s five-year plan included a complete renovation of the Museum’s 1,440 square foot rear gallery. Throughout the winter of 2014-15, the Team removed and cataloged every object, constructed a climate-controlled space, and installed a modern interpretive exhibit: Becoming Bedford. The new exhibit opened in May, 2015.
